After picking up all of my metal materials from Cedar Grove Colony I still had to get my springs that would make the gate swing back shut when you drive over the ramp. These springs had to be pretty heavy duty since they have to lift a heavy gate back up every time someone drives over it. Garage door springs were the best bet to use so I went and picked up a pair of them at Platte Lumber. Now that I have all of my materials gathered it was time to start cutting and grinding the metal to shape. I cut all of my pieces to length so that when it comes time to assemble all of my chunks of metal are the proper length. This will make it easier than cutting each piece as I go through the build because now I know that all of my pipes are the same length and uniform. With everything ready I started to assemble the base of the ramp/gate which is what will support the whole thing and prevent it from tipping over. When the base is complete I will start to work on the build of the rest of the frame.

Over the course of the past few weeks I have spent a lot of time researching the materials I will be needing to build my ramp. I have been looking at many different stores and comparing their prices so as to get the best deal for all of my metal. When I asked my dad where the best place would be to get my resources he gave me the idea of asking the Cedar Grove Colony that is only a few miles away from our house. That day I called them and asked if they had the metal I would need and I went over that afternoon to pick it up. They were very nice people and helped me load and also talked to me about what metal would be the best to use on my ramp. They gave me a great deal since they have known our family for a long time and we have helped each other out over the years. After I picked up my metal, I went and dropped it off in my mentor's shop so that when we are ready to start building I will have my resources there. The next step in the process will be designing and cutting.
